Most recently, Jacob was a candidate for Alderman in the 43rd Ward, which encompass parts of Old Town, Gold Coast, and most of Lincoln Park. As a candidate, he was called “an active force in the community” by Block Club Chicago. He led a grassroots campaign, including over 10,000 personal door knocks. He participated in countless neighborhood meetings and CAPS gatherings, public debates, multiple endorsement sessions, and TV/ radio appearances and is considered a thought-leader in alternative revenue creation.
Prior to running for Alderman, Jacob was Community Development Manager at mHUB, a non-profit manufacturing incubator located in West-Town. Before mHUB he was a Senior Director at the law firm of Reyes Kurson, where he focused on Chicago-based consulting and strategy for companies ranging from start-ups and non-profits to Fortune 500 sized companies.
Jacob began his career as the Chief of Staff to the Chief Financial Officer in the Office of the Mayor at the City of Chicago. In that role, he drove high impact projects in finance, pension reform legislation, public-private partnerships, municipal marketing, municipal bonds, and public policy. He also helped deliver over $250 million in new revenues to the City through innovative partnerships and coordinated the first of its kind biannual Municipal CFO Forum conference.
Outside of work, Jacob serves on the Lincoln Park Auxiliary Board, and is currently the Nominating & Governance Chair and was formerly President of the organization. The Auxiliary Board supports state-of-the-art animal care, worldwide conservation, wide-ranging education programs and keeping the zoo free for all. Jacob also served on the Board of Directors for the Center for Economic Progress, an organization to help working families improve their financial stability, before it’s merger in 2018 with LadderUP.
Jacob received both his Bachelor of Science in Management and Master of Finance degrees from A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University. He recently became a licensed real estate broker in the state of Illinois. Jacob lives in Lincoln Park with his wife and two young sons.
